2.4.3.1. Error 403 Forbidden

Attention!

The article is intended for the site owner. If you are a regular visitor to the site, you can either try to contact the owner (if you have the necessary contact information) or simply wait in the hope that the website owner will resolve the issue independently.

Common causes of errors and possible solutions:

  • Incorrect placement of site files on hosting. The main site files should be located in a directory like example.com/www, and subdomain files should be in a directory like example.com/sub (example.com is the name of your site, sub is the name of the subdomain).
  • The site root directory does not contain a file named index.php, index.html, or index.htm. If the main page file of the site has a different name, either rename it or override the default page.
  • You have restricted access to the site through our control panel. Check your current IP address and country using our tool (or any other) and open access for them in the access restriction settings if it was closed. If you haven't changed your access settings but access is still blocked, there could be several reasons for the 403 error: your provider has changed your IP address, you have enabled a proxy or VPN on your device, you are accessing the site from a different network or country, etc.
  • If there is a .htaccess file in the site root directory:
    • Check for the presence of directives restricting access to the site or closing access to the directory. To open access, lines with such directives can be deleted or commented out by adding the symbol # at the beginning of the lines.
    • Check for the presence of redirect directives to another directory of the site. If such directives are present, the search for the index file will be performed not in the root directory of your site, but in the directory specified in the directive.
  • When accessing the site, one of the blocked User-Agents is used. You can view the User-Agent of all incoming requests in the access logs.
  • The LiteSpeed web server is used and a symbolic link is opened.
  • If none of these options work, the problem may be related to file and directory access permissions. Try to restore them.
  • The site uses a traffic filtering service and only allows access from that service's IP addresses, but the request bypasses that service.
