2.14.15.1. Install Open Journal Systems (OJS)

  1. Set PHP version 7.3, 7.4, or 8.0 for the site (see official requirements).
  2. Download the Open Journal Systems distribution archive from the official site.
  3. Place the distribution files on the hosting:
    1. Using the file manager or any FTP client, upload archive to the hosting in root directory of the site.
    2. Extract the uploaded archive and place its contents so that they end up in the site root directory.
    3. In the site root directory, create a directory named files. ⚠️ Without this directory, installation is not possible.
  4. Prepare database:
    • If there is no free database, create a new one.
    • If there is an unused database, you can clear it and use it.
  1. Open site in browser.
  2. Specify installation data:
    • In the "Pre-Installation Steps" section, check installation system self-diagnostic results — all lines must show "Yes" (if there are issues, restore standard permissions for specified files and folders).
    • In the "Administrator Account" section, specify administrator credentials:
      • "Username" — login.
      • "Password" and "Repeat password" — password.
      • "Email" — email.
    • In the "Locale Settings" section, configure language settings:
      • "Primary locale" — the main language of the entire site.
      • "Additional locales" — additional languages that you need to install.
    • In the "File Settings" section, specify the absolute path to the files directory created during the preparation stage.
    • In the "Database Settings" section, specify database connection settings:
    • "OAI Settings" — name that is used to identify metadata.
  3. Click "Install Open Journal Systems".
  4. Check the site operation.
